Connect EDI with Your ERP and Business Applications

Paragon has extensive experience integrating EDI with SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, JD Edwards, Epicor, IBM i applications, and legacy ERP systems. We develop and support the interfaces that move business documents between the EDI translator and the applications that create and process them.

ERP and Business Systems We Integrate

The integration method depends on the ERP, its available interfaces, the EDI translator, and how the customer processes each business document.

SAP

EDI integration for SAP environments, including the inbound and outbound application processes supporting purchase orders, shipments, invoices, inventory, and other business documents.

Oracle

Integration between EDI translators and Oracle ERP applications using the interfaces and data exchange methods appropriate to the customer’s implementation.

NetSuite

Inbound and outbound integration that connects NetSuite business processes with customers, suppliers, carriers, and other trading partners.

Microsoft Dynamics

EDI integration for Microsoft Dynamics environments, including the application interfaces, validation, acknowledgments, and exception handling required by each document flow.

JD Edwards

Integration for JD Edwards environments on IBM i and other supported platforms, coordinated with the application’s files, programs, and business processes.

Epicor

EDI integration that connects Epicor applications with trading partner document requirements and the customer’s surrounding systems.

IBM i and Legacy ERP

Integration with packaged and custom ERP applications using database files, application programs, APIs, import and export processes, and other supported interfaces.

Custom Business Applications

Purpose-built interfaces for applications that do not provide a standard EDI connector or require business rules beyond a packaged integration.

Other ERP Systems

If your ERP is not listed here, ask us about it. We have worked with many additional platforms and can develop the integration needed when the system provides access through APIs, files, databases, queues, or other supported interfaces.

Move EDI Data Into and Out of the ERP Correctly

An ERP integration must do more than transfer a file. It must preserve the meaning, timing, validation, and status of each business transaction.

Outbound Data ExtractionSelect and prepare purchase orders, invoices, shipment information, inventory, forecasts, and other ERP data for the EDI process.
Inbound Document ProcessingValidate incoming data and update the appropriate ERP orders, receipts, shipments, invoices, and related application records.
Application InterfacesUse APIs, database interfaces, import and export files, queues, services, or custom programs according to what the ERP supports.
Acknowledgments and StatusGenerate, process, and retain the acknowledgments and application statuses needed to confirm that transactions were received and accepted.
Error Handling and ReprocessingIdentify invalid or incomplete data, present actionable exceptions, and provide controlled ways to correct and reprocess failed transactions.
End-to-End TestingTest the complete document flow across the ERP, integration programs, translator, communications service, and trading partner.

ERP Integration, Translation, and Communications

These are connected parts of an EDI environment, but each performs a different function.

ERP Integration

Moves business data between the ERP or custom application and the EDI translator. This is where application-specific extraction, validation, updates, acknowledgments, and error handling occur.

EDI Translation

Converts the application’s internal data format to or from ANSI X12, EDIFACT, XML, flat files, or another trading partner format according to the applicable map.

Communications

Transports the document between organizations through AS2, SFTP, a Value Added Network, or another required protocol and provides transmission status.

Integration Support Throughout the ERP Lifecycle

Paragon can build a new ERP EDI integration, maintain an existing one, or modify the integration when the ERP, translator, trading partner requirements, or business process changes.

ERP implementations and upgrades often change database structures, application interfaces, file layouts, validation rules, and processing schedules. We coordinate the EDI integration work with the ERP team and trading partners so revised document flows can be tested before production cutover.

We also support custom and legacy ERP systems. A packaged connector is not required when the application provides data that can be accessed and a controlled method for applying inbound transactions.

Common Integration Projects

  • Connect an existing ERP to a new EDI translator
  • Add a new inbound or outbound transaction set
  • Modify integrations for an ERP implementation or upgrade
  • Replace manual imports, exports, or data entry
  • Improve error reporting and transaction reprocessing
  • Integrate a custom or legacy ERP without a packaged connector

ERP EDI Integration Questions

Can you integrate EDI with an ERP that is not listed on this page?

Yes. We can work with packaged, custom, and legacy applications when the required data can be accessed and inbound transactions can be applied through a supported interface or custom program.

Do we need a packaged EDI connector for our ERP?

No. A packaged connector may be useful, but it is not required. We can develop integration using APIs, database interfaces, files, queues, services, or application programs according to the ERP’s capabilities.

Can you modify our EDI integration during an ERP upgrade?

Yes. We review the existing document flows, identify the ERP changes that affect them, revise the interfaces, and coordinate end-to-end testing before production cutover.

Does ERP integration include EDI mapping?

ERP integration and EDI mapping are separate but related. The integration moves data between the application and translator, while the map converts that data to or from the trading partner’s required document format. Paragon can provide both services.

Can you support an integration your team did not originally build?

Yes. We trace the existing data flow, interfaces, programs, maps, acknowledgments, and error processes to understand how the integration operates before making changes.
