Database Expertise Across Platforms
Paragon designs, develops, supports, and optimizes databases on IBM i, Linux, and Windows. Our experience includes DB2 for i, MariaDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Microsoft SQL Server, along with the SQL development and integration work that connects data to business applications.

Practical database services
Support the Data Your Applications Depend On
Database work must account for the applications, integrations, reporting tools, and business processes that depend on the data. We begin by understanding those relationships before recommending structural or platform changes.
On IBM i, we work with both established DDS-defined database structures and modern SQL DDL. We can maintain the existing design, make targeted improvements, or convert DDS to DDL when modernization provides a clear benefit.
For new and cross-platform applications, we work with MariaDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Microsoft SQL Server as well as DB2 for i. The database choice is based on the application, deployment environment, integration requirements, and the customer’s long-term support strategy.
Common Requests
- Database design for a new application or business function
- SQL development and changes to existing database components
- Analysis and correction of slow queries or database processes
- DDS to DDL conversion on IBM i
- Data migration between databases, applications, or platforms
- Database integration for web applications, APIs, and reporting tools
Reporting across platforms
Reporting Starts with Reliable, Accessible Data
Paragon can develop reporting solutions regardless of the database or operating platform. We prepare and connect data for operational reports, dashboards, and analysis while addressing the SQL, performance, and data-quality issues underneath them. Power BI, Tableau, and natural-language AI analysis are part of our broader Business Intelligence and AI capabilities.

Database Services Within the Application Environment
Database changes frequently accompany IBM i Development, web applications, integrations, and modernization. We coordinate database and application changes so data structures, business logic, interfaces, and dependent processes continue to work together.
FAQ
Database Services Questions
Which databases do you support?
Our primary database capabilities include DB2 for i, MariaDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Microsoft SQL Server. We work across IBM i, Linux, Windows, and mixed-platform application environments.
Can MariaDB, MySQL, and PostgreSQL run on IBM i?
Yes. These open-source databases can run in the IBM i open-source environment. We can use them for applications that benefit from those database technologies while remaining on IBM Power and IBM i.
Can you work with our existing physical and logical files?
Yes. We support existing DDS-defined files as well as SQL DDL schemas. Conversion is not required before we can work with the database, although DDS to DDL may be recommended as part of a broader modernization effort.
Can you improve a slow query without redesigning the database?
Often, yes. We first examine the SQL, indexes, access paths, data volume, and application behavior. Many performance problems can be resolved with targeted changes rather than a complete redesign.
Do your reporting services only work with DB2 for i?
No. We can provide reporting and data-access services across the databases and platforms we support. The reporting approach is selected according to the data source, business requirements, and tools the customer uses.
Need Help with a Database?
